Benu Pen

I have been admiring the designs of Benu for a while, and watching with interest their recent move from Moscow to Armenia. Quite an understandable decision as a company that is very dependent upon a global export market. Whilst the Russian market is large, I doubt it could currently replace the global high-end sales benu had enjoyed prior to wartime sanctions.

So I decided to finally jump and buy one of Benu’s fascinating and gaudy pens. I went to the source, purchasing directly from their website, and the shopping and delivery were quick and simple. My only complaint is their use of DHL, one of the private global courier services that tacks their ‘brokerage fee’ onto the customs taxes that must be paid upon importation. This fee typically vastly exceeds the taxes themselves, and is not a fee charged by Canada Post on items imported via national mail carriers.

The pen was nicely packed and included an international standard cartridge and converter. Note that some of Benu’s pens do not fit standard length converters, but I was careful to choose their Briolette model, which does.

The writing experience was an absolute pleasure. Surely the best fountain pen writing experience I’ve ever had, possibly the best writing instrument I’ve ever used! Whilst this may be partly attributed to the size, shape and materials used in Benu’s design, I’m sure a large part is due to their use of quality Schmidt nibs, and of which this is my first.

Overall, Benu has a wonderful story, a mostly hassle-free online shopping experience and a smooth, wet nib that delivers a delightful writing experience. I highly recommend them!
